Four Nigerians Make Academy Voting Membership List For Oscar 2018

Four movie professionals from Nigeria have been listed among the 928- academy-voting members for Oscar 2018.

The film icons who made the list are actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, film producers and director: Ngozi Onwurah, Femi Odugbemi and actress Wunmi Mosaku.

Omotola is a top Nollywood actress who has been in the industry for more than two decades with 300 films and several awards.

Femi Odugbemi is the famous award-winning producer of popular series, “Tinsel”, “Battleground” and a classic documentary titled, “Literature, Language and Literalism”.

Wunmi Mosaku is a popular Nigerian-born British actress who has several international awards to her credit. She won the 2017 BAFTA awards for best supporting actress.

Ngozi Onwurah is a British producer, director and lecturer who won the Melbourne Film Festival award for Best Short film with several other international awards and recognition. She is of Nigerian descents.

It was gathered that female invitees make about 49 percent of the list and 38 percent being people of colour, a step in the direction of ruling out any racial controversy or outcry.

Variety Magazine report that the 928-member figure is an improvement from 2016’s 774 members, 2016 list of 683 and 2015 list of 332 members.

Oscar invites top-notch film professionals which includes actors, writers, two categories, Members-at-Large and Associates to accommodate individuals who have no defined branches in motion picture.

It is the world’s pre-eminent movie related organization, comprised of over eight thousand accomplished men and women working in cinema.
