SaharaReporters on Thursday obtained a petition from the Adamawa State APC women leader, Mrs Patricia Yakubu, to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, whom she refered to as "our leader in Adamawa State APC" where she confirmed that TETFUND sent monies to the party in the state but it was embezzled by some party leaders. 

In the petition copied to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, President Bola Tinubu's wife, Oluremi, and others, Mrs Yakubu explained how the state APC leadership had mismanaged and squandered funds meant to run the party and how she and others had been relegated from the party. 

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) is in the middle of a major financial scandal after the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Working Committe confirmed recieving N325million from the Nigerian government agency to run the party's day-to-day activities in Adamawa State.

South-East lawmakers in Senate, want wider consultation over Tax Reform Bills

The South East Caucus in the Senate has called for wider consultations with stakeholders on the Tax Reform Bills currently undergoing legislative process at both Chambers of the National Assembly .

Leader of the caucus, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe ( APGA -Abia South), said this in an interview with journalists on Monday after a closed door meeting of Senators from the South – Eastern States.

Mr Abaribe said senators from the zone were not against the bills but want wider consultations on the bills before full consideration of both chambers of the national assembly.

” As much as the entire senators from South East , are not against the tax reform bills before both chambers of the National Assembly for consideration , we want wider consultations to be carried out on them .

” Specifically , we need to consult with our constituents across the 15 senatorial districts in the zone , with our state governments and other critical stakeholders .

” We have read through the bills and want to share our knowledge with other stakeholders from the south east zone for much more equitable framework in the bills that will eventually be passed .

” We are not against the bills but need to consult with our people “, he said.

The tax reforms bills, comprised of the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill 2024 , Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024 and Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024 had been a point of discuss among Nigerians since Oct 3, when the executive bills were forwarded to both chambers for consideration .

The Coalition of Civil Societies for New Nigeria (CCSNN) has urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Government to Champion and implement the call for Rigional Government and devolution of power to ensure power is closer to the people.

The call was made by the President General of Coalition of Civil Societies for New Nigeria Amb. Abdmumeen Ibraheem  in Lagos while participating on a political orientation program in Tungba F.m POLITICS NAIJA on Saturday afternoon.

Amb. Abdmumeen stressed the need for Political and economic development across all region in the country, this will also enable dividends of democracy to  reach the people at the Grassroot. Court Dismisses Certificate Forgery Case Against Governor Obaseki

 

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court Abuja, on Saturday, dismissed a certificate forgery case filed against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State. 

The APC and Edobor had filed the suit alleging that Governor Obaseki presented a forged certificate to seek re-election in the Edo State governorship election held on September 19, 2020.

According to the plaintiffs, the said document was purportedly issued by the University of Ibadan, while the governor presented same to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which conducted the poll.

In his judgement, Justice Mohammed held that the plaintiffs relied on the photocopied document presented by Governor Obaseki without getting in touch with the university to verify the authenticity of the said certificate.

He added that no iota of truth was brought before the court by the plaintiffs who alleged forgery, saying it was a criminal matter, but the claimants were unable to prove their case.

The judge noted that the Deputy Registrar (Legal) of the University of Ibadan had given evidence in the suit that the university duly issued the certificate to Governor Obaseki.

According to him, the governor was duly and properly admitted to study Classics which was later renamed Classical Studies in 1976 and graduated in 1979.

Justice Mohammed concluded that the plaintiffs failed to prove their allegations of forgery against Governor Obaseki and, thereby, dismissed the case.

He, however, did not award any cost against the plaintiffs.

Before the judgement was delivered, counsels to both parties in the matter had closed their cases after they presented witnesses and evidence to the court.

During proceedings on Thursday, lawyer to the Plaintiffs, Akin Olujimi, adopted his final written address.

He urged the court to affirm their position that the governor presented a forged certificate to the electoral umpire and was unfit to occupy the office.

This was, however, rejected by Governor Obaseki’s counsel, Ken Mozia, who asked the court to dismiss the suit over what he described as the plaintiff’s failure to prove their case.
