Obasanjo’s Son’s Marriage To Baba Ijebu’s Daughter In Crisis

The one-year-old marriage between son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Olujonwo and daughter of Baba Ijebu CEO, Tope Adebutu is in serious crisis.

Olujonwo told Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos that shortly after their wedding, his wife physically assaulted him. He also accused his wife of threatening him, adding that he had to leave their home for safety of his life.

In a counter-affidavit, Tope Adebutu, a magistrate in Ogun state has debunked his allegations. She instead accused her husband of cheating on her and failing to consummate their marriage.

Tope claimed Olujonwo abandoned her at their honeymoon destination for five days while he was in a Lagos hotel “in the company of other women”.

She further claimed that her husband has never shown love towards her, adding that he had inflicted emotional and psychological hardship on her.

“He was not close enough to me to consummate our marriage, which remains unconsummated as he maintained the constant habit of despising and distancing himself from me despite several efforts I made to endear myself to him,” she said.

“The applicant (Jonwo) has always meted emotional and psychological hardship on me through the act of abandoning me in his father’s house where he kept me and rendering himself incommunicado during the period of desertion without giving me any reasonable or justifiable explanations upon his return,” she added.

While denying claims of assaulting her husband, Adebutu alleged that Obasanjo’s son was a drug addict who is currently in rehabilitation at a private hospital.

Concise News reported in 2017 that prior to their wedding, Olujonwo’s mother Taiwo had raised an alarm that a prophet revealed to her that the marriage would have evil repercussions.

Taiwo went as far as taking the case to court but all efforts to stop the wedding which later held on May 11 and 13, failed.

Tope said her mother-in-law, Taiwo, has continued to attack, ridicule and defame her with the aim of destroying her career and frustrating her marriage to the Jonwo.”
