Ondo Accident Claims 18 Lives

No less than 18 travelers were singed to death on Saturday in a mishap along the Akure-Owo Expressway in Ondo State.

Affirming the episode, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr Femi Joseph, said that assortments of the unfortunate casualties had been stored at the funeral home of the Ondo State General Hospital in Akure.

He clarified that the mishap included a completely stacked 18-seater transport moving towards Abuja and a lorry moving the other way.

Joseph said that the lorry had a head-on impact with the transport while attempting to maintain a strategic distance from a pothole out and about, after which the transport went up on fire with no single survivor.

"Today being June 8, at around 0330 hours, following air terminal intersection at Oba-Ile in Akure, there happened a head-on alliance between a lorry with enrollment No. GG 873 XM Lagos and a 18 traveler seater transport with enlistment No. YLA 25 XU Adamawa.

"The 18 individuals consumed without a survivor, while the lorry driver and the engine kid fled to obscure goal.

"The reason for the mishap was because of the lorry hounding a pothole when it swerved and had a crash with the transport going to Abuja while originating from Owo.

Exertion to follow the escaping driver of the lorry is progressing," the police representative said.
