Barcelona may lose Dani Olmo for free after Court blocks Laliga re-registration

Barcelona’s attempt to re-register Dani Olmo for the second half of the season has been rejected by Commercial Court 10 of Barcelona, casting doubt on the Spanish playmaker’s future at the club.

The decision, announced on Friday, leaves the Catalan giants scrambling to resolve financial constraints imposed by La Liga, which have prevented them from making the £50 million summer signing from RB Leipzig a permanent part of their squad.

Barcelona had initially registered Olmo on a temporary basis until the end of 2024, pending compliance with La Liga’s financial fair play guidelines.

However, with the league pushing for further cost-cutting measures or additional revenue streams, the club now faces the risk of losing the 26-year-old for free when the January transfer window opens.

In a statement, Barcelona revealed plans to file a new lawsuit against La Liga, arguing that the registration rules are invalid due to the league’s alleged lack of competence.

Olmo’s agent, Andy Bara, has reportedly started exploring alternative options for the midfielder, with top Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United, and Arsenal, expressing interest.

According to a report by the Daily Mail on Friday, the uncertainty surrounding Olmo comes despite his intention to remain with Barcelona, where he has scored five goals in 11 La Liga appearances this season.
