Eleven people have lost their lives in a pontoon mishap in Tafa River, Ipokia zone of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.

Succinct News gained from an observer account that the watercraft, which was passing on 29 individuals, inverted because of a broken motor.

As indicated by the observer, the vessel was at that point amidst the stream shipping travelers and their products from Badagry, Lagos, when the episode happened.

Representative for the police in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, faulted the episode for over-burdening.

He said that the watercraft was going during the evening without a headlamp while travelers were not wearing life coats.

"It was over-burden. The watercraft did not have light and gone in the night. It had a head-on crash with a column in the waterway," he disclosed to Channels TV.

"The travelers were originating from Badagry in Lagos to Ipokia. It was the last pontoon left and all the 29 dealers boarded the watercraft."

The direction's representative clarified that 16 travelers were saved while 10 kicked the bucket on Thursday and the other one on Friday.
