Strike: No Response From Education, Labour Ministries – Asuu

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (Asuu), Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, says the national government has not answered the association's warning of strike activity, which it initiated on 5 November. 

The collection of instructors said it told the Ministries of Education and Labor and Employment quickly the association set out on the modern activity. 

Speakers commenced the strike a week ago Monday, to squeeze home their requests for development in the financing of state funded colleges in Nigeria. 

The association said that the central government had neglected to execute the 2009 assention it went into with teachers and thus the strike. 

"We wrote to advise the two services that we had continued our strike. We additionally disclosed to them we suspended the strike at first in September 2017 and we chose to continue it in light of the fact that the Federal Government neglected to execute the key territories in the Memorandum of Action that we both marked," Ogunyemi told Punch. 

"We kept in touch with the services of training and work and business. They marked the duplicates we gave them, however they have not written to state that they saw our letters. 

"The rationale is obvious to us in Asuu. The political class in Nigeria has choked essential and optional training in Nigeria. For instance, upwards of 24 states have neglected to get to the Universal Basic Education Commission assets for 2018. That has left UBEC with over N60bn that states neglected to get to. 

"Over the most recent two years, the legislature has been giving seven percent to training in the financial plan. All of a sudden this year, they woke up and said they would pronounce a highly sensitive situation in the training area and give 15 percent. Who are they misleading? This is a decision season and anyone can guarantee anything. 

"So what our association has finished up is that the decision class in Nigeria – about this legislature as well as reliably throughout the years – they couldn't care less about the training of poor people."
