Asuu Strike: FG Orders No-Work-No-Pay Rule

The Federal Government has requested Vice Chancellors of the striking bureaucratic colleges and between varsity focuses in Nigeria to authorize the "no-work-no-pay rule" on striking teachers. 

This is coming after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had proclaimed that the requests of the Academic Staff of Nigeria Universities (Asuu) for better subsidizing of government funded schools, particularly colleges, were coherent and inside the ambit of the law. 

In a reminder dated Thursday, November 29, 2018, sent by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) to University Vice Chancellors, the government noticed that installment of pay rates to the striking specialists from some other sources would be seen as an infringement of surviving principles and Government mandate. 

The reminder located by Concise News read, "In perspective of the current Industrial activity by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Asuu, the government has coordinated that there will be no installment of any type of pay rates and recompenses to the staff on strike in bureaucratic and between varsity focuses. 

"Therefore, I am to guide Vice-Chancellors to apply the "No-work-no-pay" rule. 

"Be that as it may, Universities and between varsity focuses are to pay rates and recompenses to Non-instructing staff. All Vice Chancellors and Directors of focuses should take note of that the compensations to staff on strike from whatever wellspring of assets will be seen as an infringement of surviving guidelines and mandate of the government of Nigeria."
