Lagos Court Orders Jay Jay Okocha’s Arrest

A Lagos High Court in Igbosere has issued a warrant of capture for previous Nigeria global Austin Okocha, prevalently known as Jay-Jay Okocha, for tax avoidance.

This request was made by Justice Adedayo Akintoye on January 29, following an application by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice after the previous Super Eagles skipper neglected to show up in court for a supposed 2017 salary tax avoidance charge.

The service recorded a three-count charge as a detriment to the previous PSG midfielder in June 6, 2017, which blamed Okocha for "Inability to outfit return of salary for expense purposes with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service in opposition to Section 94 (1) of the Personal Income Tax Act Cap P8 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 (As Amended).

"Inability to make good on salary government expense in opposition to Section 56(a) and (b) of the Lagos State Revenue Administration Law No. 8 of 2006.

"Inability to outfit the arrival of Income for duty purposes with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service in opposition to Section 94(1)of the Personal Income Tax Act Cap P8 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 (As Amended)."

The Prosecuting Counsel Y. A. Pitan, who moved the application for the warrant on January 29, told Justice Akintoye that the case came up out of the blue on October 5, 2017, yet Okocha neglected to show up in court, despite the fact that administration had been affected on him.

He included that Okocha still didn't show up after a few deferments.

In a seat administering, Justice Akintoye conceded the application and issued a seat warrant for Okocha's capture.

Akintoye made the dismissal for a further hearing booked until April 15.
