EFCC Docks Man for N3.2m Facebook Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on May 22, 2019 summoned one Abubakar Isiyaku before Justice Sa'adatu Ibrahim of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano, Kano State on a one-tally charge of acquiring cash by falsification.

Isiyaku was captured by EFCC agents following an appeal by the ostensible complainant Mohammad Adamu Babandaji, who claimed that occasionally in April 2017, he got a companion demand on FaceBook from the litigant who acted like a previous schoolmate whom he went to class with.

Babandaji honestly acknowledged the companion demand imagining that it was his woman companion.

Accordingly, Isiyaku began causing money related solicitations from the complainant to up to the point that he requested to acquire N3,260,000 which Babandaji benevolently exchanged to him by means of his First Bank account.

Isiyaku guaranteed that his sister was sick and that he required some cash for treatment. In the wake of making the installment, Babandji understood that he had been hoodwinked.

The charge peruses: "That you, Abubakar Isiyaku, some of the time in March 2017, inside the ward of this Honorable Court with plan to dupe, distorted yourself on Facebook as a female partner to one Mohammed Babandaji and got the aggregate of ₦3,260,000.00 (Three Million Two Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira just) from him through the First Bank of Nigeria having a place with Aisha Mohammed under the affectation that you had family wellbeing challenges, which falsification you knew to be false, and you in this manner submitted an offense in opposition to Section 1(1)(a) of Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offenses Act. 2006 and culpable under segment 1(3) of a similar Act."

He argued "not blameworthy" when the charge was perused to him.

Arraigning counsel, Micheal Ojo mentioned a date for hearing in perspective on the supplication of the respondent.

Resistance counsel, T. M. Edema, moved an application for the safeguard of his customer.

Ojo, be that as it may, contradicted the application in a seven-passage counter-sworn statement properly ousted to by an employable of the EFCC dated May 21, 2019 imploring the court to reject the application.

In the wake of tuning in to the contentions, Justice Ibrahim, dismissed the case to June 13, 2019 for decision on safeguard application and requested that Isiyaku ought to be remanded in EFCC guardianship.
