Police arrest 6 persons with a truckload of poisonous ponmo

The Lagos state police order has captured six people with "expansive amount of harmful bovine skins" prominently known as "Ponmo".

An announcement by Bala Elkana, police advertising officer, said the power followed up on a tip off that a truck-heap of "harmful bovine skins" were put away in a distribution center No 9, College Road, Igando region of the state.

He said the power activated its group, driven by a divisional cop, and swooped on the suspects.

"On 04/05/2019 at about 5.00am, following up on the quality of a data from a valid source that a Truckload of Cow skins, prevalently called 'PONMO', suspected to be toxic were loaded in a distribution center at No 9 College street, Igando; a group of Police Officers driven by the Divisional Police Officer Igando, activated to the scene," the announcement read.

"The colossal loot and pyramid of toxic ponmo and the synthetic compounds utilized in the protection of the Cow skins were recouped.

"One TATA Truck with Registration number AKD-375-XB which was utilized in passing on the products was seized.

"Authorities of Lagos State Ministry of Health were reached and after due examination, the Cow skins were affirmed to be noxious and not fit for human utilization."

The police recorded the names of the suspects as Adelowo Yinka, Olawumi Onabanjo, Omowumi Wasiu, Adeshokan Taiwo, Iyabo Olúwa and Taye Kazeem.

Zubairu Muazu, the state magistrate of police, guaranteed Lagosians that the power is resolved to ceaselessly ensure life and property of the general population just as conservation of general wellbeing and security.

"Examination is continuous to learn the source and goals of those toxic sustenance things. Suspects will be charged to court," Muazu said.

Adeola Salako, chief of open issues, Lagos service of wellbeing, had prior approached the general population to be watchful and report any offers of unwholesome sustenances and nourishment items to ecological wellbeing officer in their closest nearby government or to the service of wellbeing.
