SOUTHERN YOUTH ASSEMBLY OF NIGERIA COMMENDS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND STATE GOVERNOR'S IN THE FIGHTING AGAINST COVID-19 PANDEMIC (FULL STATEMENT)

Preamble

The above named assembly is a growing network of young peace builders,activists and leaders in seventeen (17) states of southern region which comprises the South West,South South and South East zones. It runs a legislative system of government with conglomeration of honourable members representing districts and constituencies in the region. The SYAN's vision and mission is to harness the cumulative energies of southern youths to engage ourself in continuous action and dialogue, directed at building a peaceful, equitable and sustainable region in country.

SYAN has been in the vanguard of campaigning for equity, justice and good governance, free and qualitative education in southern region and Nigeria at large. SYAN is an affiliate of the International Youth Parliament (IYP), African Youth Parliament (AYP), Nigeria Youth Parliament (NYP), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and other International Youth Organizations. The activities of SYAN are carried out within the framework of it constitution. These among others are: to build a peaceful, equitable and sustainable region and country, to groom future National and International legislative icons as well as parliamentarians to make laws that will enhance peace, unity and tranquility amongst the youth.

The Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (SYAN) commends federal government, led by His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) for his efforts in fighting against the corona virus pandemic that had seriously affected the socio-economic activities of the country.

The President has played a leadership role in the fight against COVID-19 Pandemic that has lockdown the economic activities of the countries across the world.

SYAN appreciate the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, Nigeria Centre For Disease Control and Ministry of Health for the roles they have played in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

The leadership of the assembly appreciate the federal government and State governments' for taking the well-being of Nigerian masses seriously and sharing of paliatives to the vulnerable Nigerians.

The leadership of the assembly appeal to the federal government and state governments to provide more pilatives to the vulnerable Nigerian since unemployment and poverty had eaten deep into the fabrics of the nation

SYAN appreciate the state governors, doctors, organizations, civil societies, security agencies, media organizations and individuals that has contributed immensely in the fight against this deadly virus. We pray that may the God strengthen and reward you all.

The body condoles with the families that has lost their love ones during this Covid-19 pandemic. We pray that may God give them the fortitude to bear the loss

The leadership of the assembly advise the federal government that is too early to open the lock down due to the danger accrued to the deadly virus. We must not allow it to spread more than the capacity of the country

For example, Ghana opened the lock down and had over one thousand cases in ten (10) days and also State of Virginia opened the lock down and had over thousand cases in twenty four (24) hours

SYAN appeal the federal government to make test centres available at all check points in state borders and the federal government can collaborate with state government on how best to deploy medical personnel

The leadership of the assembly advice the government to urgently begin to discuss with the research institute, universities, polytechnics, and renounced herbal clinic to work at getting home produced ventilators, medicine and other items needed to win the battle against COVID-19 pandemic

The federal government and the state governors should critically look into this and make decision for controling the spread of this desease and protection of lives

SYAN appeal to the citizens and member of the public to obey the instructions given by the federal government, state governors, ministry of health etc in order to prevent ourselves from having this deadly virus.
