Manchester United are said to have rejected a swap deal this summer from Juventus which would have seen Aaron Ramsey join the club and Nemanja Matic go the other way. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been linked with a new central-midfielder all summer.
Nemanja Matic appears to be a player in decline - recently turned 33, made just 20 Premier League appearances last season.
However, it appears he is still a valued member of Solskjaer's squad, and is worth more than many may have thought.
With United on the lookout for a new midfielder, the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Ruben Neves have frequently popped up.
Unsettled Juventus man Ramsey is also believed to have been considered, with an offer even being put on the table by the Serie A side.
