NAPS commends ACC John Onoja Attah, Commandant of the Mining Marshals under the NSCDC

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS (NAPS)

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) hereby commends ACC John Onoja Attah, Commandant of the Mining Marshals under the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for his outstanding and relentless efforts in combating illegal mining across Nigeria.

At a time when the nation continues to battle the economic and environmental consequences of illegal mining, ACC Attah has remained resolute, disciplined, and focused. Under his leadership, the Mining Marshals have carried out sustained operations in illegal mining hotspots, leading to the disruption of unlawful activities, arrest of offenders, and protection of Nigeria’s valuable mineral resources. These efforts have significantly contributed to curbing revenue losses, reducing environmental degradation, and strengthening national security.

Illegal mining is not just an economic crime, it is a direct threat to the future of our country. It deprives the nation of critical revenue, fuels insecurity, and destroys the livelihoods of host communities. In the face of these challenges, ACC Attah has demonstrated uncommon courage and patriotism, standing firm against powerful interests and ensuring that the law takes its course.

As Nigerian polytechnic students, we are proud of him. We identify with his vision, his sacrifice, and his unwavering commitment to national development. He represents the kind of leadership young Nigerians believe in, one that is driven by integrity, accountability, and genuine love for the nation.

It is therefore disappointing to observe that certain individuals, driven by selfish motives, have resorted to blackmail and smear campaigns in an attempt to discredit his good work. We make it clear that such actions are unacceptable and must stop immediately. The results of his efforts are visible, and no amount of propaganda can erase the impact he has made.

We strongly caution those engaging in blackmail and acts of distraction to desist from such behavior. Nigerian students are united, conscious, and ready to defend truth and progress. We will not fold our arms while individuals attempt to undermine a man who is working tirelessly for the good of our country. Should these attacks persist, the Nigerian student body will not hesitate to respond through lawful and organized means to protect the integrity of this noble cause.

NAPS reaffirms its total support for ACC John Onoja Attah and encourages him to remain steadfast in his duty. His work is a source of hope and inspiration to millions of young Nigerians.

Nigeria needs more dedicated patriots like him, and we stand firmly with him.
