PRESS STATEMENT: From the Office of the Chairman, NANS JCC Oyo State

Chairman, NANS JCC Oyo state write with a heart full of gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility following my emergence as the Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Oyo State axis of the National Association of Nigerian Students.

This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to every Students’ Union President across Oyo State, to every student leader, and to the entire student community who stood firm, believed in this vision, and made this moment possible. Your support, encouragement, and commitment to a better student movement will never be taken for granted. I sincerely appreciate you all.

As we begin this new chapter, I want to assure every student in Oyo State that this administration will be built on unity, inclusiveness, and purposeful leadership. We are fully committed to working hand in hand with the Oyo State Government to advance the welfare, academic prosperity, and general well-being of students across the state.

We must also take a moment to commend the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for his commendable strides in governance and his consistent demonstration of goodwill towards youths and students. His policies and interventions have continued to create an enabling environment for educational growth and youth development in the state.

However, as Oliver Twist would always ask for more, we will continue to engage constructively and advocate for even greater support, improved policies, and expanded opportunities for students. This is not out of ingratitude, but out of our collective desire to see Oyo State students thrive at the highest level.

It is also important to address a critical concern within our student community. The role of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Students’ Affairs, as it currently operates within the state, has raised issues that cannot be ignored. Rather than fostering unity, it has, in many instances, contributed to disunity and weakened the structure of proper student representation. This has limited the emergence and effectiveness of credible voices from within the student community.

As a leadership, we believe that student representation must remain independent, inclusive, and truly reflective of the will of the students. We will therefore engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the student community in Oyo State is united, properly represented, and positioned to contribute meaningfully to governance.

Once again, I thank every SUG President, every stakeholder, and every student who made this possible. The journey ahead requires all of us, and together, we will build a stronger, more vibrant student movement in Oyo State.
