COCSON declares support for Tinubu’s re-election

A broad-based national coalition comprising civil society organisations, professional bodies, labour groups, artisan associations, and grassroots networks has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The coalition also announced plans to present 20 million signatures endorsing the president’s candidacy.

The coalition, led by the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON), said it brings together more than 1,500 groups drawn from across various sectors of the Nigerian society, including human rights organisations, medical and legal professionals, trade and artisan unions, community-based organisations, and labour leaders.

According to the group, a national convention has been scheduled for May 17, 2026, where representatives of participating organisations will formally converge to declare their support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

In a statement signed by Tabuko Kennedy, its National secretary, the coalition said: “The historic convention is scheduled to hold on May 17, 2026, where leaders and representatives of the various groups are expected to converge in what organisers say will be the largest endorsement gathering in Nigeria’s history.

“The event will serve as the official platform for the coalition to collectively declare support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.”

The coalition further disclosed plans to submit 20 million signatures gathered from Nigerians across the country in support of the President.

It stated:

“In a major demonstration of grassroots mobilisation, the coalition also revealed plans to submit a compiled total of 20 million signatures of Nigerians who have endorsed the President’s candidacy.
